Regional Workshop on Climate Health Governance and Regional Cooperation in South and Southeast Asia

The Asian Collective For Health Systems, along with it’s partners gathered governments of 10 countries- Ministry of Health, climate and health representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam, along with UNDP, UNEP, APAN, UNFPA, UNICEF, MSF, other CSOs and academics.

The meeting was kicked off by virtual keynote addresses by Dr. Soumya Swaminathan and Dr Sandro Demaio as well as an address by Dr. Julitta Onabanjo in person. Panel titled Aligning Health System Strengthening and Climate Resilience — Regional Perspectives had a stellar lineup of Mozaharul Alam (UNEP), Colleen Daniels (MSF) and Ian Milimo (UNDP Asia Pacific).

Through country presentations by governments followed by breakout group discussions delving into the technical operational context and nuances, this meeting enabled knowledge exchange and peer learning among key countries in the South and Southeast Asia.

The key pillars of our discussions focused on:
1. Transformative governance and institutional integration
2. Climate and health finance
3. Climate-resilient and sustainable health service delivery
4. Integrated surveillance and information systems
5. Equity, Just transitions, and community engagement

Discussions aimed at strengthening climate-health governance, building resilient health systems, and translate emerging global commitments into actionable national and regional priorities
