Health Workforce Migration in Southeast Asia- Regional Dynamics and Global Implications

It examines the drivers and implications of health workforce migration and identifies ethical and sustainable strategies for managing it.

Human Resources for Health: Strengthening Competence and Compassion- Workshop Report
Colombo, Sri Lanka
The report notes unequal health workforce distribution, rural-urban gaps, and reliance on foreign-trained staff in South and South-East Asia. Reforms focus on modernized education, digital tools, stronger regulation, and community accountability. Yet, weak private sector oversight, poor infrastructure, and uneven implementation hinder equity and quality.

Strategic Management of Human Resources for Health: Building Competence and Compassion through Systemic Changes

WHO SEARO and TACHS co-hosted a Regional HRH Workshop in Colombo (July 2025), bringing together stakeholders across Asia. Dr. Borwornsom Leerapan’s synthesis stressed strengthening education, retention, accountability, and workforce planning through systems thinking and regional cooperation.
