Human Resources for Health: Addressing Distribution Inequities – Experience from Thailand

This is the third webinar in our series, which is an ongoing research to develop country case studies on specific aspects of Human Resource for Health, with the aim of understanding insights emerging from initiatives in each country.  The case studies are being developed by institutions within each country.

This webinar will feature learnings and lessons from the Thailand experience. The case study has been co-developed with International Health Policy Program Foundation, Thailand.

Presenters will Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert, Vice Chair of the International Health Policy Program Foundation (IHPP Foundation) and Ms. Divya Lakhotia, Project Manager for Global Health, IHPP Foundation.

Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert is a public health specialist, administrator and policy advocate at national and global level. He began his career as a director and practitioner in rural areas and has various technical and administrative experience in Thai FDA, the Bureau of Health Policy and Plan, Deputy Permanent Secretary and the senior expert in Disease Control. He has been proactively working in public health area for more than 3 decades from the grass roots to the highest policy level. At present, he is the Chair of PMAC SI, Vice Chair of the International Health Policy Program Foundation (IHPP Foundation) and the Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program Foundation (HITAP). Dr. Suwit is one of the most experienced health system specialists and has been involved and contributed in Thailand’s health system development for decades. He always reiterates that health systems can become more equitable, inclusive and fair through primary health care strengthening. Clear evidences from many developed countries tell us that we are now in the right direction to focus on primary health care, not the institutional care. The success is not all about money but the most important is the heart and the spirit of the health personnel.

Ms. Divya Lakhotia is a Project Manager for Global Health at the IHPP Foundation in Thailand. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Mahidol University, Thailand, and a Master’s degree in Global Health from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Ms. Lakhotia works on a range of global health projects, including human resources for health, health financing, and health leadership and capacity building, with a focus on strengthening health systems and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). She also manages the PMAC Global Health & UHC Hub under the PMAC Strategic Institute.
